Digital Citizenship Week

Digital Citizenship week is October 14th-18th.

We all live in a society where social media is the norm.  Yet, for something that is so common and almost expected to be involved with, we do little to teach our students how to use it effectively.  Digital Citizenship was once viewed as a one and done activity in which we told students what not to do.  Today, we know that digital citizenship needs to be intertwined into our curriculum and should be more about what to do.  Studies show that students who have been mentored on effective use of Social Media tend to get better jobs, get accepted into post secondary programs at a higher rate and get more scholarships.

Whether you are a Kindergarten Teacher, Math Teacher, English Teacher, PE Teacher, Art Teacher, or any other type of Educator you play a role in helping our students become good digital citizens and leaders.  Below are some activities or lessons you could consider using in your classroom as a starting point.  If you would like any assistance please reach out to one of the Instructional Techs.

How else can I be involved with Digital Citizenship?

I can't wait to see all the great things happening for Digital Citzenship Week, and I hope this is just a starting point for your journey integrating Digital Citizenship into the work you do with students.
